Turning Point

What does one define as a turning point, a wake up call, or is there even such a thing...is life just a reel of events shooting across our screen...or is there more to pain than we care to reflect on, sometimes these events seem random, and sometimes they feel perfectly placed, in the exact right moment, like a GPS direction just before you enter the roundabout and you have forewarning that you need to take the 3rd exit...I don't know, but if we are still on this side of the curtain, then a moment of deeper reflection could be very beneficial if not instrumental in not only getting us to the other side of trauma, but enriching us with a better understanding of ourselves and our inter connectedness to the world around us....just something worth contemplating. What I can say is that being stuck in trauma can be very damaging, and it can perpetuate much longer than a 1 minute ordeal, in fact the memory of an unprocessed trauma can become a bigger monster than the trauma itself.
About Pics
The images come from 17 May 2007 as published by Cape Talk Radio. On this particular Thursday afternoon I caught a lift home after Tech with my cousin. We started on our normal route along De Wal Drive, only to hit bumper to bumper traffic, my cousin asked me should we rather take the scenic route and head over Kloof Nek, which I said yes that’s a better idea, little did we realise that we would be met halfway up kloofNek with a head on collision that nearly could’ve ended both our lives.
I remember the moment my cousin said what is this guy doing, I looked up and there was a Land Rover coming down kloofnek road in the opposite direction, only the driver was in our lane, and in the next second after that the other car rammed us head on, the next thing I knew I was sitting on the pavement, looking at the car, my cousin still trapped inside. I have no recollection of pain, even though I had a gash to skull level and my right ear was half hanging off. Amazing how the body shut out the trauma, the pain, what an intricate design is the human being, to this day I do not know how I got to the pavement, this was a turning point, a reflection point for me…it was a moment I questioned my purpose here on this planet, and a trauma that effected me in various ways, but also envoked gratitude, and a sense of urgency not to let time slip away unnoticed.
